Slow OpenSSH client connect in Lion (OSX 10.7)

I reinstalled my trusty workhorse 13″ Macbook Pro recently (some buggy kernel extensions got the better of it).

Once I got the OS up and running again and data restored from backup, all ssh server connects from the Terminal had a 20 second delay upon initial connect.

Hmm – appareantly I had forgotten to backup some customization tricks from my last ssh config!

Putting the below lines in my ~/.ssh/config fixed the annoying connect delay:

Host *
GSSAPIAuthentication no
GSSAPIKeyExchange no
AddressFamily inet

I only use SSH private/public keys to authenticate to my remote servers, so no GSSAPI extensions were needed, the last line keeps the OpenSSH client from attempting a IPv6 connection to the remote host.

Heureka – no more delay and happy ssh’ing once again!

Denzel is the man

Set in a post-apocalyptic USA, Denzel Washington’s Eli journeys through a hopeless landscape of pillagers, non-believers, lost souls and just all-around bad guys, armed with only his faith, the book he has sworn to protect, and the biggest macheté knife I have ever seen, which plays a certain part as pertaining to the aforementioned bad guys.

Directed by the Hughes Bros (“From Hell”), and touting gorgeous cinematopgraphy by Don Burgess and a scintillating soundtrack, it is by far one of the best “nuclear dramas”, I have seen so far, carried beautifully by Denzel’s all encompassing presence, surpassing even the immaculate performance by one mr. Smith in a similiar outing.

Highly recommended!

Robyn is cool

I remember Robyn all the way way back from my teen years. She has lingered somewhat quietly all these years, holding on to her own musical personality, while trends came and went.

The very cool techno/pop style “Hang with me” tune is a good example of her sound, I especially love the tech posing at the start of the video and everyone knows girls who know how to handle gear are the sexiest of them all! :-)

Drone Wars

OK – so I’m a pretty serious guy at 38 who doesn’t fool around with “toys”!

I fly R/C helicopters which are big enough to take your head of if you get too close.

Then someone goes ahead and makes a “toy” which is so cool you kinda have to surrender, and just go “whoa, I want one of those”.

AR.Drone from the french company Parrot is exactly such a toy.

A quadcopter with a Linux based OS, wifi, onboard camera, gyros and stabilizers to level things out, and to top it of the whole thing is controlled by …. your phone! At the offiical launch date so far only available on the iPhone, Touch and iPad but I’m betting they’ll make a version for the Androiders as well.

Oh and did I mention it has an open API platform, so everyone can write features and software for this cool little thing and last but certainly not least, the onboard camera is used for “augmented reality games”, which lets you battle it out with your buddies in imaginary dogfights on your phones, while the Drone buzzes around your backyard.

Launch date in US in september, I really can’t wait to get my hands on one, might even have to get me an iPad along with it so I can grab a quick Drone game, whilst casually browsing my mail!

Now that would be cool!
